Anyone that loves working with their hands and making their own unique vision of woodwork will eventually consider the idea of selling those items. But just because someone can make beautiful pieces of woodwork doesn’t mean that they know anything about how to sell them. But if this is a great love and that person can find a way to sell those items, then they could create a career for themselves doing something that they love.
How To Sell Custom Woodworking
1. Trade shows – Depending on the type of woodwork that a person does, it may be suitable to advertise those items from a booth at trade shows. To do this is relatively inexpensive when compared to setting up a full-time shop and could prove to be lucrative. Anyone who does this idea should bring their very best pieces to show off.
They can hold a drawing for one piece that can be used as a way to get names, addresses, and phone numbers of those that are looking at the items. The drawing can be for a nice, but smaller item that would generally be less expensive but still considered a quality piece. After the trade show, then the woodworker could contact all of those who signed up.
2. Fleamarkets – Often flea markets are underestimated for their value to sell items such as this. But the fact is that there are many people that love going to flea markets and finding a great bargain. Very often when a special piece of woodwork is being sold for a good price, many people will be very interested. Additionally, just as with trade shows, the woodworker can hold drawings or other incentives to get people to give their names, their email addresses, and even phone numbers so that later the woodworker can contact those people and let them know whenever a new piece is available.
3. Social media – There is no escaping that social media is part of life in the modern age. Anyone who knows how can reach thousands and thousands of people through the use of social media. Showing beautiful pieces of custom woodworking is perfect for social media. Often if the piece is really nice and unique the picture will be shared and could even go viral. An interested person could easily buy it online and it could be shipped right to their doorstep.
4. Website – These days almost anyone wanting to sell anything should have a website. This is a perfect opportunity to showcase all of the person’s best work. They could easily establish a blog and write free content for people interested in reading which will keep visitors coming to the website and looking at the wonderful pieces they have to offer. Having a website is very often as good or better as having a physical location.
It has been said that when a person earns their living doing something they love they will never work a day in their life. Building a career around a great passion is the perfect solution to a fulfilling career. With a little courage and some hard work, it can be done.
